Knowing what to do if a member of your family is not able to manage their own affairs is challenging.

There are many legal and financial hurdles to overcome at what is already a difficult and upsetting time. Our team of experts will help you make sense of these tricky circumstances. We help our clients plan for the future, putting in place documents such as lasting powers of attorney and advance decisions.  Our expert team uses its many years’ experience to help clients make complex and emotional decisions with sensitivity.

Sometimes an individual does not have the opportunity to make provision for their loss of mental capacity. In these cases our specialist team supports our clients with applications to the Court of Protection and the subsequent management of a deputyship. We have a great deal of experience advising clients of all ages with a variety of needs. We work with our clients and their families to support their independence and minimise administrative burdens.

In certain circumstances a professional attorney or deputy is required and we support our clients with bespoke deputyship and attorneyship management services.

Lifetime Planning

  • We advise on lasting powers of attorney for property & finances and health & welfare. We will take your instructions as to whom you wish to appoint as your attorney and what authority you would like those individuals to have. We will assist you with registration of your lasting powers of attorney so that they are ready to be used when needed.
  • We can offer the peace of mind of drafting an advance decision, a document that can set out your wishes as to what medical treatment you would like to be given in particular circumstances.

Court of Protection Services

  • We have a number of experienced lawyers who are able to advise on applications to be a deputy for an individual who is no longer able to manage their property and affairs.
  • We will advise you if you have concerns about the actions of somebody who is appointed as a deputy or attorney.
  • We can assist with specific applications to the Court of Protection, for example, those required to make a gift or specific health and welfare decisions.
  • We provide day to day management of the property and affairs of someone who has a deputyship.
