Liz is a senior associate in the residential property team.
Having been in the sector for many years, she has now specialised in the Building Safety Act 2022 and heads up the specialist team here at Knights.
This Act is a hugely complicated area of law, and many firms now will not take instructions on any matters affected by the Act.
Liz regularly received referrals from other firms and many estate agents and managing agents from all over the country to act in properties affected by the BSA 2022, as one of the few professionals out there undertaking these works.
Liz helped edit The Law Society guidance on the Act with the conveyancing association and is regularly asked to present on the Act to other professionals. She has liaised with DLUHC on the issues the Act is causing at the coal face.
Liz and Hannah Page also recently did a podcast on the BSA with Today’s Conveyancer laying out the problems faced by conveyancers and leaseholders.
Recent examples of how she has helped clients include:
- Assisting a managing agent in the preparation of landlord certificates and building a database of qualifying and non-qualifying leases.
- Taking over a file form another firm of solicitors who were unable to act due to the BSA and completing it within a week.
- Advising on the additional obligations brought about by the Act on high-risk buildings.
